There is a place called Mps auto salvage( http://www.mpsautosalvage.com/ ) And basiclly its a mustang junkyard located in GA. They will have everything you need and probably be able to sell you a complete door and if your lucky im sure they will have them in black so it will match already. Good luck

He can not come to the US while it’s processing.

K3 is pretty much useless as it’s taking the same time to process as IR/CR (they’re trying to phase it out). You would be better off forgetting about that and just going straight for the IR-1 or CR-1. He would arrive in the US as a legal permanent resident and able to immediately get a drivers license, SSN and work authority.

The entire process averages about a year so long as there are no extenuating circumstances.

I applied to the Visa Waiver program last week and mine was approved pretty much instantly, it just depends on any criminal charges you may or may not have, if you have nothing that would make them question your application, you should get through fine.

Edit: i just re-read mine and it says that even if it is approved online, you can always get turned around and sent home AT the airport if you do not provide any documentation as to where you are going, where you will live and what you’re going for, so remember to take evidence.

Pretty sure you just have to sign the title and then they go to the DMV and get the title tranfered, but that’s their problem not yours. Also, be sure to take your tag off the car after selling it. Tag stays with the person not the car.

Good upgrades for a beginning autocross driver?

One of my friends has convinced me to try out autocross racing this summer up near Washington D.C. I was wondering what good and relatively inexpensive upgrades or tune ups would help me out. I currently have a 1.8L Turbo 2003 Audi A4 Quattro with a Borla double catback exhaust, a carbonio cold air intake, EBC sports brakes (I think thats what they are?) and Enkei Evo 6 18″ rims with Z-rated tires. I was considering buying Hawk HPS brake pads (front and back?) flushing my brake fluid and replacing it with Super Blue, doing some basic weight reduction, and possibly getting some racing tires which would mean another set of rims since i don’t have my stock ones (also i know nothing about this so tire recommendations would be greatly appreciated). Any other suggestions or problems/ideas with what I’ve listed and also any other upgrades you think would be beneficial without breaking the bank? Thanks

irham hadi answers:

Much of what you should do will depend on class rules and where you plan to complete… But some general comments:

First off, where to look for performance: The single biggest thing you can do to improve your performance is how you drive. This may sound silly, but in my years of instructing intermediate and advanced students, I often find many of them have completely lost focus on this aspect. So if you haven’t already, spend the time to check out some driving books (Hank Watts’ Secrets Of Solo Racing remains the best of the AX specific books, and a good overall driving book; Skip Barber’s Going Faster is also an important read, and I’ve found Bentley’s Speed Secrets to be valuable for intermediate to advanced drivers as a way or presenting things in a new light and often going a little deeper). Additionally, see if you can’t get some of the faster drivers at your events to give you a ride or ride along with you. Likewise, if doing coursework, pay extra close attention to what they are doing when they drive (look for the brake lights, listen for throttle, etc).

Also, for self investment, don’t discount the effects of good driving gloves and shoes.

But for the car? The single biggest performance factor will be the tires. Nothing else you can do will begin to come close to what you can get from the tires. A soft compound slick will be the best, followed by the Hoosier AX tire, then some of the other Hoosier style DOT tires. Then on to other R-Comps. Then the current class of “cheater” street tires. And then on to the aggressive street performance tires. If you are changing tires at the event, consider the Hoosier style and above.

After tires, the next best thing is getting the car setup with an appropriate alignment and corner balancing and dialing in the correct tire pressures. With the AWD on your car limiting how much you can stagger your tire sizes, special care with the pressures will be important in helping to minimize understeer.

Next would be anti-roll bars. Again, with your car, adjustable bars would be the best choice so you can better tune your balance. After that, springs and dampers. And then weight… And lastly engine and power.

What you are missing here would be brakes… Because braking in AX is never much of an issue unless your car has some major braking problem. If you are also tracking your car this is something you’ll look at, but keep in mind that many things you will do to make the car‘s brakes more track appropriate will hurt in your AX performance. Track pads need to be hot to work, and you’ll never get that kind of heat into them during an AX. Bigger calipers and rotors can have a positive effect on lap times around the track, but are just added unsprung weight on an AX car. Are you having problems with your brakes? If not, make sure you are using pads designed for street use! Ate Blue or similar fluids are always good, but again, I cannot imagine ever being in danger of boiling any brake fluid at an autocross.

So, specifics: If you are getting wheels and new tires. Go with the lightest wheels you can get since this will be saving unsprung rotating mass and saving here can have a very nice effect on all aspects of the car‘s performance. In terms of tires, Michelin radial slicks in the blue compound seem to be the best at the moment, although like any dedicated race tire they will never get up to temp. Any soft compound bias ply slick would be next. Either of these though will have major classing implications, so be aware! After that would be the Hoosier A6, followed by the Kuhmo V710. The V710 is a good value choice, and also seems to work at much wider slip angles than the Hoosier. But for sheer pace in the hands of a good driver, the Hoosier is the top for a DOT tire.

If you are going with a street tire, the “cheater” tires would represent the sweet spot: Bridgestone RE11, Dunlop Z1, or the Kuhmo XS. Dunlop coming in as the bargain choice with the Kuhmo being the quickest (the Bridgestone is probably the best all around for all conditions).

That and some adjustable anti-roll bars would give you a good basis to start (along with getting a more aggressive alignment and corner balancing). After that, consider that the stock seats in your car are probably around 50# each, and most likely not as supportive as you’d like… And so on.

Just to add, if you’ve just started, don’t get too far ahead of yourself. Coming back to the earlier point about investing in the driver: faster tires take more skill to drive quickly and will break away quicker and with less warning. If you are not already getting everything or at least a lot of your car‘s potential, making it faster can quickly become a crutch that will limit your driving ability.

Should I fix my 1998 Dodge Neon R/T?

I have a 1998 Dodge Neon R/T that is wrecked. My ins. co. totaled it out. They wouldn’t pay for any mods even though some of the parts had less than 1000 miles on them, but because I had a lot of new parts I bought it back for around 225 dollars.

The good – brand new Quaife ATB LSD differential, short throw shifter, performance computer, cold air intake, 52mm throttle body, polyurethane bushings, race bobble strut and mounts, brand new Enkei 16 inch rims w/BF Goodrich performance tires, cross-drilled & slotted brake rotors, top-end of the engine had just been gone through including port/polish and all new belts and hoses, and I had just installed new coil pack, plugs, wires, alternator and a new battery.

And wouldn’t you know, it had a full tank of 94 octane and it got stolen.

They found it three days later, in a ditch. They had ran it out of gas and instead of pulling over and getting out and running, the punks ditched it, literally.

Now the bad – bent rad. support, bent pass. side frame rail, buckled pass. fender and door, pass. side strut destroyed, half-shaft is GONE, bent pass. side tire-rod, front pass. side brake rotor cracked, (the brake pads are on the pass. side floorboard), bent wheel and flat tire, air bags DID NOT deploy, windshield had two spider web cracks where the front seat passengers had hit their heads, (it is mean of me I know but I hope they had really bad headaches), and the only fluids that it leaked was the tranny fluid where the drive shaft was yanked out, (the seal is obviously destroyed). The car starts right up no problem and does not show any engine codes. This is all of the damage that I know of at the moment.

A buddy of mine said that he could fix it, (he works for Vo-Tech in the autobody section and told me he would let the students fix it and he would use it to grade them on a class project). All I have to do is pay for parts, which he gets a dis-count on. They also have access to a frame machine and it would cost around 100 dollars to rent the time to use it. I would also have to agree to let the car be shown at 2 to 3 shows next year. (So they could showcase their end result to colleges and such). He said that even though students would do the actuall hands-on work, they would be supervised by ASE certified techs so it would be of the same quality work that you would get from the techs themselves.

Sooo, what does everybody think, should I fix it?

By the way, I have $5500 invested in mods alone.
Well, I agree somewhat with all of you so,

dodge man – I will donate the vehicle to be repaired, my sister is going to buy it for her 16 year old son for whatever it costs to fix it!

steve h – I really like the 1st gen two door Neon’s looks, so I am going to do an SRT-4 swap like what you are doing.

Gene G – So far you are going to get best answer because of this – “Your need to think it out because you’ll be the one to live with it.” You are right, I would hate to get it back and it just wasn’t what I expected. “You could wait and find one that in need of a motor or trans and do a change over and be far ahead of the game.” You are basically agreeing with steve h on this point. So that is what I have decided to do. I was planning on a Hahn turbo setup eventually anyway, so why not just go with the SRT swap. A wrecked SRT basically has all of the components I would need and I am starting out with a good amount of hp and torque to boot.

Sounds like it would be better to let it go. But if you send it to a trade school for repair be prepared for the end results you get what you pay for.

That seems too much for a old discontinued vehicle. The retail Kelley Bluebook for a stock 96 Breeze in excellent condition is only $2700. If you really like it and think that the added custom features are worth the extra $2000. GO FOR IT! But plan on keeping it for a while as it will be difficult to find another buyer like you.

Need help with alloy wheel rim width and offset?

Hi. I’m swapping out my OEM Enkei 15″ rims. These are the original wheels on the car and have the following specs:

  Dia 15″, Offset ET45, stud 4×100, running 195/55 R15 tyres.

I can’t measure the inside rim width as the tyre is on, but “M5″, “BJ L1″, and “J15X 6JJ” are stamped on the wheel. What do all these codes mean?? Am I right in saying that they are 6″ wide rims? (The outside diameter measures about 7″ with a rule at the widest part).

Also….. will a set of 16″x7″ OZ Alleggerita HLT alloys (with offset ET37) fit my car?
Thanks!

irham hadi answers:

15″ is the diameter and 6J is the width (6 inches) of the wheels.

It would have been better if you had told us the make, model and year of the car.
7×16″ would probably fit your car but it is always a good idea to check what your specs are before you buy new alloys.

Drop us an email and we will check it for you.
